Peace
We promote peaceful coexistence and reject violence as a means of resolving differences.
A peaceful, united and cohesive Kenya where diversity is embraced and every citizen contributes to a culture of peace and non-violence.
This is the future that guides our commitment: a country where people from different communities and backgrounds can live together peacefully, respect one another and work toward common aspirations.
Our mission
To mobilize and empower Kenyans to promote peace, dialogue, tolerance, responsible citizenship and national cohesion through civic education, community engagement, youth participation and strategic partnerships.
Our mission recognizes that peace-building is a shared effort. It calls for citizens, communities, young people, institutions and organizations to participate constructively in the life of the country and to choose peaceful ways of addressing differences.
What we stand for
These values describe the principles OPOKPI seeks to promote in its work and in the relationships between people and communities.
We promote peaceful coexistence and reject violence as a means of resolving differences.
We recognize that despite our differences, we share one country and one national destiny.
We respect diverse opinions, cultures, communities, beliefs and backgrounds.
We encourage communication and constructive engagement as tools for resolving differences.
We promote respect for the dignity, rights and freedoms of every individual.
We seek to ensure that every community and generation has an opportunity to participate.
We encourage citizens to understand and exercise their responsibilities towards their communities and country.
The Initiative provides an inclusive platform that does not exist to promote or oppose any political party or candidate.
Why peace matters
Peace is the foundation upon which communities, economies and nations develop. When peace is threatened, the consequences are felt across society—by families, young people, businesses, schools, communities and institutions.
Building peace therefore cannot be left to one institution or one group of people. Peace is everyone's responsibility.
The Kenya we want to contribute to
Our approach
Our approach combines six connected ways of supporting peace-building and civic participation.
Provide knowledge and awareness about peace, citizenship, tolerance and dialogue.
Create opportunities for citizens and communities to participate in meaningful conversations.
Equip young people and community leaders to become advocates for peace.
Bring together institutions, communities and organizations working toward common objectives.
Build a national network of individuals and organizations committed to peaceful coexistence.
Develop partnerships and programmes that continue beyond individual campaigns or events.
Our shared responsibility
We want to contribute to a Kenya where people can live, work, participate and express themselves peacefully. That future depends on listening, understanding, tolerance and responsible citizenship.
Our peace pledge
I commit myself to promoting peace and unity.
ONE PEOPLE. ONE KENYA. ONE PEACE.
