Peace & Civic Education
We develop and support programmes that educate citizens, particularly young people, about peace, responsible citizenship, tolerance, dialogue and peaceful participation in civic life.
Our programmes
Our work brings citizens and communities together to learn, participate constructively, strengthen trust and promote peaceful solutions.
We develop and support programmes that educate citizens, particularly young people, about peace, responsible citizenship, tolerance, dialogue and peaceful participation in civic life.
Young people are central to Kenya's future. Our youth programmes provide opportunities for young Kenyans to become advocates for peace, tolerance, responsible citizenship and positive community engagement.
We facilitate constructive conversations between communities, stakeholders and citizens around issues affecting peaceful coexistence and national cohesion. Our goal is to create spaces where people can listen, understand different perspectives and seek peaceful solutions.
The Initiative will take the message of peace directly to communities through peace caravans, roadshows, town-hall meetings and community engagements. These activities will connect the national peace message with local communities and encourage citizens to become active participants in peace-building.
We use digital platforms to reach Kenyans with positive messages promoting peace, unity, tolerance, dialogue and responsible citizenship. Our digital campaigns will encourage citizens—especially young people—to become part of a positive national conversation.
We work with local communities and community-based organizations to support initiatives that strengthen trust, cooperation, dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
Peace-building requires collaboration. We establish partnerships with government, civil society, private-sector organizations, faith-based institutions, youth organizations, media and other stakeholders to expand the reach and impact of peace initiatives.
Our flagship community engagement programme
The One People, One Kenya Peace Caravan will be a flagship community engagement programme designed to take the message of peace, unity, tolerance and non-violence across different parts of Kenya.
Through roadshows, community meetings, youth engagements, town halls, civic education, media activities and digital campaigns, the Peace Caravan will create opportunities for Kenyans to participate in conversations about the future of their communities and country.
The Peace Caravan will focus on six connected priorities:
Taking the message of peace across Kenya—connecting national aspirations with local community participation.
Our approach
Our approach combines six practical and connected ways to strengthen peace-building. Together, they support learning, participation, collaboration and sustained action.
Provide knowledge and awareness about peace, citizenship, tolerance and dialogue.
Create opportunities for citizens and communities to participate in meaningful conversations.
Equip young people and community leaders to become advocates for peace.
Bring together institutions, communities and organizations working toward common objectives.
Build a national network of individuals and organizations committed to peaceful coexistence.
Develop partnerships and programmes that continue beyond individual campaigns or events.
Youth & peace
Young people represent an important part of Kenya's present and future. OPOKPI seeks to create meaningful opportunities for young people to participate in peace-building, civic education, community dialogue and positive social action.
We want to support a generation of young Kenyans who understand that differences do not have to lead to division and that disagreements can be managed through dialogue and peaceful engagement.
Through youth participation and engagement, the Initiative aims to encourage young people to become advocates for peace, tolerance, responsible citizenship and positive community engagement.
Young people can contribute by sharing positive messages, supporting community peace activities, volunteering their time and skills, and encouraging others to choose dialogue instead of violence.

Our commitment
The One People, One Kenya Peace Initiative is committed to promoting a culture where Kenyans can live, work, participate and express themselves peacefully.
We recognize that peace is a continuous process. It requires listening. It requires understanding. It requires tolerance. It requires responsible citizenship. And above all, it requires each of us to make a conscious commitment to peaceful coexistence.
We may be different. We may disagree. We may come from different communities and backgrounds. But we are one people. We have one Kenya. And we share one responsibility—to protect peace.
